The First Step

To freedom from domestic abuse.

femicide in merseyside

15 years of failing women

In 2021, the specialist domestic abuse sector called an emergency meeting with local leaders as they predicted the area was on the precipice of a crisis for women and girls. In March 2023, The Femicide Census identified Knowsley as the constituency with the highest rate of killed women in the United Kingdom for the previous 12-month period. To reduce the disproportionate killing of women and girls in Merseyside and evoke change, the specialist VAWG sector has commissioned a review into the deaths of women and girls in Merseyside since 2009.

This is the report and findings.

The First Step is a support service for those affected by domestic abuse.
